He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love,
his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe
it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

A collie has the brains of a man,
and the ways of a woman.
Scottish proverb

A dogs best friend is his illiteracy.
Ogden Nash

If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die
I want to go where they went.

People often wonder just what trainers give the sheepdog in exchange
for its boundless willingness. Food treats and praise sit on the trainers
shelf, untouched, unused. The sheepdog is shown its possibilities, he
learns what life is like for a good dog and is invited to walk in a rational
world whose farthest boundaries are defined by grace.
Nop's Hope by Donald McCaig

Happiness is a warm puppy.

I wonder if other dogs think poodles are members
of a weird religious cult.
Rita Rudner

Dogs feel very strongly that they should always go with you
in the car, in case the need should arise for them to bark violently
at nothing right in your ear.
Dave Barry

I can train any dog in five minutes. It's training the owner that takes longer.
Barbara Woodhouse

In dog years I'm dead.

He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me). When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me... whenever... where-ever - in case I need him. And I expect I will - as I always have. He is just my dog.

A dog teaches a boy perseverance and to turn
round three times before lying down.
Roger Caras

Every boy who has a dog should also have a mother,
so the dog can be fed regularly.

Border Collies
These little cattle-herders, apart from their peculiar apptitude for driving  sheep through hurdles where sheep don't want to go, have
many pretty and endearing ways. I have never known any other dog who would sit hanging his head, in expectation of a scolding.  Puzzling and idiosyncratic companions, I have come to the conclusion that they are a bit fey. It must be due to the Celtic strain in them.
How much one wishes, sometimes, that one's dog could explain what is going on inside his head; and that he could tell one how often
in spite of all one's love, one misunderstands him.
Victoria Sackville-West  Faces

Ever consider what they think  of us? I mean,  here we come back from the grocery store with the most amazing haul  -  chicken, pork, half a cow. They must think we're the greatest hunters on earth.

You think dogs will not be in heaven? I tell you
they will be there long before any of us.
Robert Louis Stevenson

The greatness of a nation and it's moral progress can be judged
By the way it's animals are treated.
